Strawberries and Wine Granita recipe
This is an easy recipe for a dessert that does not require an ice cream maker. Juts simply keep stirring and the end product will be like a grown up snow cone. Makes 8 servings.
Ingredients:
Granita:
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
8 cups fresh strawberries, stem removed, cut in half
1 cup red wine, fruity preferred
Garnishes:
2 cups sliced strawberries and a few more whole for garnish
1/4 cup red wine, fruity preferred
3 tablespoons sugar
Directions:
In a small saucepan over medium heat combine the sugar and water and stir until the sugar dissolves. Let cool.
Place the strawberries, wine and syrup in a food processor and puree until smooth, about 3 minutes.
Strain this mixture into a 9 by 13 inch baking pan. Cover and freeze for 1 hour.
Stir the granita with a fork and break up any solid peices with the fork.
Continue to freeze until firm, scraping with a fork every 30 minutes.
For the garnish, mix the sliced strawberries with the wine and sugar. Let rest for 30 minutes or until the sugar dissolves.
Divide the granita among 8 nice glasses and pour the strawberry mixture over.
Garnish with a whole strawberry.
